The housebuilder pledged £750 to the Stockport Vipers Under-13s RFC ahead of the club’s participation in the prestigious Youth Rugby Festival in Lisbon.

It will be the first international tour for the players, providing them with the opportunity to play against top-tier teams from all over Europe, experience a different rugby culture, and build memories that will last a lifetime.

Barratt Homes, based close to the club at its head office in Didsbury, strives to support local sports teams at a grassroots level to ensure young people can develop their skills and pursue their interest in sport.

Kev McCarthy, Coach at Stockport RFC, said: “It’s fantastic for the club and our U13 Vipers squad to have a leading name sponsor in Barratt Homes supporting them for this tour. The support of Barratt Homes has enabled us to take all our players away, irrespective of their home circumstances, and that is just an unbelievable position to be in. My heartfelt thanks go out to the Barratt Homes team for its support.”

Gemma Schofield, Mini and Junior Chair and Head of Fundraising at Stockport RUFC, said “A massive thank you to Barratt Homes. We pride ourselves on being an all-inclusive community club here at Stockport RUFC and the support of sponsors is key to us being able to run our club all year round to the standard we do and give opportunity to so many members to play sport, keep fit, form friendships and feel part of a community.”

The Vipers is more than a rugby team; it’s a tight-knit group of friends who are growing not only as sportsmen, but also as individuals.

It is managed largely through volunteering parents and community members who rally together and get support from business neighbours to support the opportunities for the young members of the community.

Alan Watt, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “It’s important for us to support youth sports teams in our local communities, as it keeps children active while inspiring the next generation of athletes.

“We are pleased to be able to support Stockport Vipers Under-13s with its international tour, and we wish the team all the best in Portugal and for the season ahead.”
