The event will be held on Saturday, June 21 within the town’s market area on Railway Road. It’s organised by the Love Urmston volunteer team – a group of residents and business owners helping to drive footfall and excitement to the town – and follows the first ever festival, which was held last year.
A vast range of local food and drink businesses, including restaurants, bars, cafes and retailers, have signed up to run stalls and demonstrations, along with numerous musicians, kid’s entertainers, choirs and bands that will provide entertainment. In addition, dozens of local people are volunteering to ensure the event, which will be hosted by Manchester’s Finest presenter Matty White, is successful and runs smoothly.
Anyone wanting further information, or who is still interested in signing up, should email urmstonpartnershipteam@gmail.com now.
In another major development for the second festival, North West property developer, Gecko Homes, has become the event’s headline sponsor. As part of Southway Housing Trust, Gecko Homes specialises in creating affordable and shared ownership homes across many of Manchester’s most popular suburbs.
First time buyers and qualifying homebuyers purchase shares in its homes, ranging from 10% to 75%, and pay rent on the rest, as well as having the option to increase the share percentage later, all the way up to outright ownership. Profits are invested back into local communities in the North West.
Gecko Homes recently completed work on a new development in Urmston, consisting of 16 apartments, known as The Townhouse, which proved hugely popular and all the apartments were snapped up in a matter of weeks.
Following this success, Gecko Homes is now working on another development on Old Crofts Bank Road in Urmston which will offer 24, two-bedroom, contemporary apartments.
Fred Davids, Chair of the Love Urmston team, said: “Last year was the first ever YUM Food & Drink Fest and it attracted hundreds of visitors, and we can’t wait to build on that. Events like this bring the community together and highlight the array of talented businesses that call Urmston home, but they’re only possible through generous volunteer time, donations and sponsorship, so we’re hugely grateful to Gecko Homes for their support.
“We’re now really excited to make this year’s event a roaring success and we can’t wait to see as many people there as possible.”
Christina Tattersall, Head of Sales from Gecko Homes said: “Urmston is a key location for us and we love everything that the town has to offer, with a vibrant food and drink scene and lots going on. The Townhouse was a very successful development for us and enabled us to transform the lives of 16 lots of homebuyers, who now have a stylish and high quality place to call home.
“There’s no doubt our latest scheme in Urmston will be equally successful and it’s already generating interest, so we’re very proud to further cement our position in the town by sponsoring Urmston’s YUM Food & Drink Fest. It promises to be a fantastic event, that will be full of local businesses showcasing the best that Urmston has to offer, as well as providing entertainment for the whole family, so it’s a day that nobody will want to miss.”
In addition to its Urmston developments, Gecko Homes is currently working on apartment schemes and housing developments in Stretford, Eccles, Levenshulme, Macclesfield, West Didsbury, Sale, Chorlton and Old Trafford.
