Christine Robertson, partner at the Wishaw Holistic Centre Audiology Hub on Charles Street in Craigneuk, is aiming to raise awareness about ear health and hearing care this month, to coincide with its upcoming Community Open Day on Wednesday 22 January.
One of the most reoccurring issues with hearing is earwax build-up which can cause hearing difficulties and discomfort. To help with this, the team can provide an on-site ear wax removal service which can provide relief for anyone who may be feeling uncomfortable.
Ear microsuction uses a vacuum to gently remove any excess wax and is considered the quickest and safest method of removal, including hard or impacted wax. This service, available at the Specsavers audiology hub, is carried out in-store by trained and accredited audiology professionals.
Christine highlights the challenges this can cause: ‘Everyone has earwax. It’s produced by our ears to help protect them from infections and to stop them feeling dry and irritated. However, too much wax can cause problems, particularly when it becomes hardened and impacted, potentially leading to hearing loss, discomfort, pain and in some cases infections.’
Christine continues: ‘Because of this, it’s always hugely important to get expert help if you experience difficulty with your hearing, who can safely check if earwax is causing a problem.
‘Hearing loss is experienced by millions in the UK and affects people of all ages. Everyone's hearing is unique. That's why we carry out comprehensive hearing tests to better understand each person’s individual hearing profile. It also means Specsavers’ hearing experts can help people find the right hearing aids to rediscover the sounds they may be missing.’
The team is also excited to welcome members of the community to find out more about the wax removal service, as well as other audiology services, at the Open Day later this month.
The team will be raising funds for Alzheimer’s Scotland and the local Dementia Resource Centre in Motherwell during the Open Day. Anyone who attends on the day will also be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 voucher touchers a set of new hearing aids.
Christine says: ‘We’d love to welcome all members of our local community to pay us a visit at our Open Day on the 22 January to find out more about how we regularly support people across Lanarkshire. They can also enjoy a hot drink, cake and a chat with our qualified hearing aid dispensers and audiology team about any questions they may have.’
The Specsavers audiology team at the Wishaw Holistic Centre can provide adult hearing tests, as well as numerous audiology services such as hearing aid fittings and replacements, assisting customers with any hearing concerns they may have.
