At the Top Model Challenge, Amy proudly walked the runway in a self-designed tartan bodice gown, made from fabric gifted by Glenisla Kilts of Motherwell.
The 25-year-old Miss Scotland designed a structured bodice and shorts base in weathered Stuart Hunting tartan, with a dramatic moss green open-front overskirt and billowing train. The gown and matching headpiece were embellished with Scottish thistles and wild grasses – each applied by hand, and completed just ten minutes before she left for the Miss World contest!
“I wanted to carry a bit of home with me,” Amy said. “The tartan was absolutely beautiful, and I put everything into making it. I am a self-taught dress maker, and was very proud to wear something I created myself.”
While other contestants wore gowns by global designers, Amy’s outfit drew applause when it was announced she had made it herself — a moment she says she’ll never forget, “Even if I had the budget for a designer dress, I’d still have worn this. It meant so much more.”
