BANE is a user-led group that promotes social inclusion, independence and choice for disabled and elderly people across the North East of England. The charity provides the free loan of beach wheelchairs and other specialist equipment to help people of all ages, access and enjoy the beach, whether it’s for a quick paddle or a full day by the sea.

The £2,000 funding will go towards the provision of additional equipment and storage space, helping even more people enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of spending time by the coast.

Susan Rowley at BANE, said: “This funding means we can enable more people to access our beautiful beaches, whether it’s to enjoy a peaceful moment by the sea or to make memories with family and friends. We’re incredibly grateful to Lakes & Dales Co-op members for their support.”

The other two good causes that received a share of the £9,000 are the Cumbria Deaf Association and St John’s Chapel Town Hall.
