Andrew and Maggie find eco-friendly new home in Sutton Bonington

A retired couple who were looking for an environmentally-friendly place to live in a well-connected location have found their ideal new home in Sutton Bonington.

Andrew Baldwin and Maggie O’Mahony were living in a nearby town but, after retirement, found that they needed a home with more living space.

Keen to stay in the area, they found just what they were looking for at Lime Gardens, William Davis Homes’ development in Sutton Bonington.

Andrew, a former civil engineer and university lecturer, said: “We wanted a home with more space and a high-quality build which was environmentally friendly, in a pleasant location.

“We also wanted a bigger garden as we became interested in gardening during lockdown and wanted the opportunity to create our own manageable garden space from scratch.

“Our new home ticks all the boxes – Sutton Bonington is a pretty, friendly village and our home is fully insulated, comfortable, and easy to maintain.

“We knew of William Davis as being an established, high-quality builder with a good name and we wanted to buy a new home to avoid getting stuck in a chain.”

The couple chose a three-storey Kenilworth townhouse at Lime Gardens, which is William Davis’ most eco-friendly development to date.

Homes include solar panels, EV charging points, and the highest energy performance certificate ‘A’ rating for efficiency.

Andrew said: “The layout is ideal as we have the bigger kitchen and dining room which we wanted for entertaining, and the kitchen will be lovely in the summer as it leads out to the garden. We also have a separate living room so we have somewhere quiet to sit and read.

“The top floor is designed as spacious master bedroom but we shall use it as a study because, being an academic, I have numerous books and papers and still aim to continue my academic interests and other hobbies, including photography.”

The area’s connectivity was also key for Andrew and Maggie, a retired solicitor, so that they could easily visit their family in London.

Andrew said: “The location is great because it’s easy to go anywhere – we are well connected to Nottingham, East Midlands Parkway station is nearby for travelling to London, and we are close to East Midlands Airport.”

William Davis is currently selling a range of three and four-bedroom homes at Lime Gardens, off Park Lane. The development is open for viewings from 11am to 5pm, Thursday to Monday.
