Following its establishment in 2006 as a support group, the Nottinghamshire Down’s Syndrome Support Group has since grown into a charitable organisation dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for individuals of all ages with Down’s syndrome across the Nottinghamshire area.

The group currently supports 330 families, with members ranging in age from infancy to late 50s. Through various social groups, it aims to provide individuals with Down’s syndrome the same opportunities for connection and engagement as those without disabilities.

“It will help us to continue to subsidise our activities and ensure all attendees are fully supported. Also, it will aid our Baby Bag Project, which provides gifts and information to new families of a baby with Down’s syndrome.

“Our services show families they are not alone, and we are there to support them.”

The developer’s donation was made as part of its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Foundation. It is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

Helen added: “Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund scheme is fantastic, and to small charities like ours, it means so much to be selected for a donation.

“We want to thank Barratt and David Wilson Homes for helping us to continue to reach out to our families and people with Down’s syndrome.”

Mark Cotes, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands, said: “We are honoured to support Nottinghamshire Down’s Syndrome Support Group in its ongoing mission to provide opportunities to people with Down’s syndrome across the county.

“We hope our donation enables the group to continue its valuable work, ensuring that individuals and families in the local area can benefit from the support and fantastic social activities available.”
