FableMosh breaks the traditional theatre mold by allowing viewers to choose their performers and influence the storyline as it unfolds. Drawing inspiration from "choose-your-own-adventure" video games, the platform lets users select from eight pre-recorded actors who each play different roles within the show.
This flexibility allows audiences to customise the performance without disrupting its flow, giving them unprecedented control over the narrative.
With six different shows, FableMosh explores a variety of genres, including spoken word, comedy horror, gig theatre, and absurdist drama. The platform’s debut show, Descension, offers a thrilling start to the series. Each release will be available in multiple formats, including film, podcast, and virtual reality (VR).
The first show, Descension, written by Lora Krasteva, is a spoken word play that explores a chilling hypothetical scenario: what if all migrants in the UK suddenly disappeared? Inspired by the 2022 UK riots, Descension uses a haunting blend of audio to tackle the social, political, and emotional consequences of such a disappearance, setting the tone for FableMosh’s bold, boundary-pushing content.
Following Descension, a new show will be released monthly, including:
- Homunculus by Joe Strickland (April 28th) – A comedy horror monologue about an influencer who goes viral with footage of their pet frogs, only to create a real-life homunculus in a desperate attempt to keep their followers entertained.
- Gigs by Doug Deans (May 26th) – A gig theatre monologue featuring original music that follows a couple whose love for live music is the only thing keeping their relationship together—until it isn’t enough anymore.
- Cuckoo’s Corner by Lucy Foster (June 30th) – A horror monologue set in a flat with dangerous cladding being removed, as a streamer’s broadcast is interrupted by unsettling noises that make them question what’s real.
- Turing, To You by Jamie Drew (July 28th) – A farcical comedy about the overblown functionality of AI systems and the need for human connection, following two people who, after a breakup, turn to AIs for comfort—unaware they both work for companies that employ people to pose as AI.
- The Roger Fischer Protocol by Jack Fairey (August 25th) – A tense drama based on a famous thought experiment, exploring the relationship between a prime minister and the person who holds nuclear launch codes surgically implanted in their chest.
Chronic Insanity strives to make the arts accessible to everyone, regardless of background or ability. FableMosh removes many of the traditional barriers to entry in the theatre world, making it easier for people to engage with performance art on their own terms. Whether unable to attend in-person performances or simply preferring the flexibility of digital content, FableMosh offers a convenient and inclusive way to experience theatre.
Joe Strickland, Artistic Director of Chronic Insanity and a playwright behind the platform, shares the inspiration behind FableMosh:
“Imagine being able to choose the actors in a TV show, film, or play, customizing a story with your favourite performers to create a version just for you. What if you could see more people like you in the stories you watch, connecting with the characters and living through them? This is often difficult to achieve when the character is only one person, with one set of characteristics. Many don’t realize how easily this issue can be addressed with a little creativity. FableMosh aims to give more agency and creative control to audiences who feel excluded from the stories society tells.”
