National Walking Month is a great opportunity to enhance resident’s wellbeing further, providing an opportunity to socialise with each other, improve their mobility and fitness by taking part in gentle walking exercises.

Residents, friends, families and members of the local community marked National Walking Month by participating in a tail-wagging 62K dementia challenge walk with dogs to raise vital funds for the charity, Dementia UK, and to raise awareness and make a difference to the lives of those affected by dementia.

Everyone laced up their walking shoes and leashed up their furry friends to set off on a gentle stroll through the scenic Gedling Country Park in Nottinghamshire. Participants brought their own pooches along, a borrowed four-legged companion, or simply joined in the walk without a canine.

Leading the walk were Natalie Lowe, Coppice Lodge Care Manager; Ken Buxton, Care Home Manager; Karen Salmon, Care Assistant; and Angela Allen, Front of House Manager. Natalie Lowe, HC-One’s Coppice Lodge Care Manager, said:

“This is more than just a walk – it’s a chance for our residents, staff, and community to unite for something truly meaningful. It was great to see everyone out there, with or without a dog, raising money and spreading awareness for Dementia UK.”

With every step, Coppice Lodge colleagues, residents and relatives aimed to shine a light on the importance of supporting dementia care. For more information, call 0115 920 5906, email coppice.lodge@hc-one.co.uk or visit Coppice Lodge - Care Home in Arnold, Nottinghamshire | HC One.
