Nottingham Hospitals Charity celebrates highest ever number of volunteers

This Volunteers’ Week (2-8 June) Nottingham Hospitals Charity is celebrating its highest ever number of volunteers, and the positive impact they have on Nottingham’s hospitals.

The Charity, which supports patients and staff at Nottingham’s NHS hospitals, has been supported by 68 volunteers over the past financial year (1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025) – representing a staggering 323% increase in volunteering hours compared to the previous year.

Volunteers help with a huge range of important tasks at the Charity, including attending fundraising events to act as stewards, attending cheque presentations to meet and thank donors, and serving customers in the Nottingham Hospitals Charity Hub and shop at the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC).

The Charity Hub, near the QMC main entrance, is staffed entirely by volunteers, who enable the shop and information hub to be open most weekdays, and serve patients, visitors and staff who comes through the doors.

To celebrate Volunteers’ Week, all 68 volunteers will receive a thank you card from Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s Chief Executive, Nigel Gregory, and there will be a special celebration event in the Charity Hub at QMC for all those who volunteer there.

Deb Morton, Volunteer Development Manager at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to see our number of volunteers grow so rapidly over the past year. Our volunteers do amazing things to help our cause, and we simply wouldn’t be able to raise as much money as we do for Nottingham’s hospitals without their support.

“We’ve got a wide range of volunteers from different backgrounds and of different ages and abilities, all of whom bring their own special set of skills and experiences with them. We’re so grateful for everything our volunteers do for us every single day.”

Jackie Rowell is one of Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s longest-serving volunteers, having joined the Charity Hub volunteer team three years ago.

She said: “I enjoy meeting all the amazing patients and relatives who come through the doors, and hearing their stories. Everybody I meet always has wonderful things to say about the fantastic care they’ve received at Nottingham hospitals. It feels great to be part of that, and to be raising money for the hospitals charity at the same time.”

Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s youngest volunteer is Shanvi Naudiyal, aged 17, who has recently started helping out at the Charity Hub.

She said: “I’m really enjoying serving customers, talking to new people, and knowing that I’m making a difference and contributing to the hospitals charity.”
