Persimmon Homes has completed the freehold purchase of a 28-acre site at the former Penwortham Mill in Lancashire. Acquired from L&Q, this strategic acquisition paves the way for the delivery of 274 high-quality new homes under the new development name ‘Mill Green Gardens’.

The development will feature a wide range of homes, from two-bedroom starter homes to five-bedroom family properties – providing opportunities for more local families to own their own home. 83 of the much-needed new homes will be specifically allocated to help local people in housing need.

The site will be accessed off The Cawsey, adjacent to the new Lidl, which opened in February 2025 and an application has been submitted to South Ribble Borough Council to vary the existing planning permission to allow work to begin on the first phase of new homes this summer.

Andrew Laing, Land Director at Persimmon Homes Lancashire, said: “We’re thrilled to have completed the acquisition of this exciting new site in Penwortham. Mill Green Gardens will deliver a wide choice of homes for local people, including vital affordable housing, and we look forward to seeing the first stages of the development take shape later this year in a key market area for the Lancashire business.

“I’d like to thank L&Q and everyone involved in getting this deal over the line. We’ll now work closely with South Ribble Council and local residents to ensure the development delivers real benefits for the whole community.”
