Keiran Casey, Councillor for Castle and Priory Ward, secured a pledge in 2019 from the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner for a new fit-for-purpose station, following years of campaigning alongside local residents.

Plans were announced for a new station at the Castlegate Site and are now progressing at pace, with external and internal works being carried out to transform this into a modern-day police HQ.

Councillor for Castle and Priory and lead campaigner, Keiran Casey said:

“This was a promise I made to residents a number of years ago, and I always keep my promises.

“Crime and ASB is one of the top things residents raise with me as a local councillor and I know what a big issue this is for our communities, whether this be crime in residential areas, ASB or off-road bikes, to problems in the town centre.

“I have no doubt therefore that this new station, which will have a publicly open front desk and will be home to neighbourhood police teams, will make a massive difference to addressing some of these issues locally.

“I want to once again say a massive thank you Simon Foster for delivering on this pledge, as well as to all the local residents who have supported me with this campaign over the past few years, particularly Gordon Laird and Terry Ledbury, it really does show what can be achieved when we all work together”.

Local resident Terry Ledbury said:

“It’s fantastic to see works progressing at the new police station at the Castlegate site and this is something many residents, my neighbours and those I speak to in the town centre tell me is desperately needed.

“This will make a big difference locally I think, and I want to say a massive thank you to Keiran as the local councillor who has been leading this right from the start, and who has had to be relentless in pushing to ensure this happens, working with our West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster”.
