Staffordshire WIs twinkle like stars at County Show

After 12 months of preparation the Staffordshire Federation of Women’s Institutes County Show Committee sprang into action on Bank Holiday Monday and prepared a fabulous marquee in which Staffordshire WI members displayed their competition entries. The theme for this year’s event was Nursery Rhymes.

The competition categories were well supported by Staffordshire WIs and all manner of art, craft, cookery and floristry were competing for the top spots. The standard of entries was fabulous, making the judges' decisions difficult with only a quarter of a mark deciding the winners in some categories.

On Tuesday with the judging over, Staffordshire Federation hosted a Preview Evening which was well attended by dignitaries and WI members enjoying drinks and canapes, experiencing the beauty of the marquee and viewing the array of entries.

Wednesday and Thursday saw the main event and the WI marquee was visited by many members of the public who enjoyed looking at the competition entries and chatting to the member support team about the WI. There were stalls for them to purchase a variety of goodies and the children could make themselves badges in the children’s corner.

The icing on the cake was the award of second place that was given to Staffordshire Federation by the Showground Committee for their marquee. Very well deserved.

With everything cleared up on Thursday evening Staffordshire Women’s Institute County Show Committee went home to start planning next year’s event.
