Can You Dance? (CYD?) is a pioneering force in the UK dance scene, having introduced the dance convention format to the country in 2012. Founded by Matt and Tom after their appearance on BBC One’s So You Think You Can Dance, CYD? has since grown into a national movement that blends high-level competition with exceptional dance education.
At this weekend’s Regional event, the Elite dancers of Crystal Academy competed in both the Junior and Senior categories, showcasing their versatility in a high-energy, cabaret-style competition. The junior group performed Hot Chocolate while the seniors took the stage with The Ladies Choice, both entries facing off against dancers from associate and college-level programs across the region.
Despite fierce competition and a mix of dance styles on display, Hot Chocolate stood out with a dynamic and polished performance that captured the attention of CYD?’s judges - earning them a Wildcard award and a ticket to the National Finals in October - a first for a Staffordshire Dance School!
“We dared to dream big and our dancers delivered,” said a representative from Crystal Academy team. “To compete at this level and succeed is a testament to their dedication, passion, and professionalism, and Principal Kirsty's limitless choreography.”
CYD? continues to provide a unique platform for young dancers to shine, learn, and grow in a professional and inspiring environment. As the Elite team prepares for Nationals later this year, they carry forward the same courage and commitment that brought them this far - and the dream of going even further.
