Mohammed Fardin, Parminder Kaur and Ravina Randhawa, who all work at Specsavers in New Square Shopping Centre, took on part-time roles as optical assistants while studying for their optometry degrees at Aston University. After graduating, they balanced their studies and assessments alongside working full time to complete their year-long pre-registration qualification. In their new roles, they are all making a significant impact in their local community, providing exceptional care.

‘I really enjoyed my pre-registration experience because no matter how challenging the content was, my colleagues were always on hand to support me,’ comments Mohammed Fardin. ‘I’m thrilled to have completed the programme and can’t wait to put what I’ve learned to the test. I was particularly interested in contact lenses, so I’m looking forward to undertaking more training to support my development further.’

‘My pre-registration year exposed me to some really complex and challenging cases, all with the support of my supervisors and the rest of the team,’ says Parminder Kaur. ‘I’m passionate about providing excellent care to our customers, and my training has given me the opportunity to develop both my clinical and customer service skills. Optometry is exciting because there’s always more to learn, so I’m excited to gain further certifications and one day, I’d love to support a pre-reg through their journey too.’

‘Throughout my pre-registration year, I really enjoyed interacting with customers, understanding their eye care needs and seeing how even small interventions could significantly improve their quality of life,’ says Ravina Randhawa. ‘Like Fardin, I was especially interested in contact lenses because it made me appreciate how tailored eye care can be! Going forward, I’d like to pursue further qualifications, and I’d also love to travel back to my homeland of India to offer eye care and raise awareness about eye health to make a positive impact beyond the consulting room.’

‘The whole team is really proud of Fardin, Parminder and Ravina - they have worked so hard all year and it’s brilliant to see it’s paid off for them,’ comments Majid Jawaid, store director at Specsavers in West Bromwich. ‘As a team, we are committed to providing the very best eye care to our customers so it’s fantastic to have three additional optometrists to help us better serve the community.’
