From humble beginnings, Mark co-founded Star Scaffolding in 2003 with just £1,000 of personal investment and a container-sized yard. Under his leadership, the business has grown into a regional powerhouse employing over 100 people with a multi-million turnover.
Mark’s commitment to innovation, inclusion, and opportunity has transformed the company into a recognised industry leader. Star Scaffolding has attained Tier 1 construction status and secured major accreditations including NASC, CHAS, Constructionline Gold, and ISO 9001. The business has also invested over £2.1 million in advanced scaffolding systems and digital transformation to remain ahead of the curve.
An advocate for second chances and skills development, Mark supports neurodivergent individuals and ex-offenders, creating life-changing employment opportunities through in-house apprenticeship schemes. His inspirational leadership was recently recognised when Star Scaffolding won Medium Employer of the Year at the 2024 Ladder for the Black Country Apprenticeship Awards.
“Being shortlisted for this award is a huge honour,” said Mark. “I’m proud of the business we’ve built, but more importantly, I’m proud of the team behind it and the lives we’ve helped change along the way.”
The winners will be revealed at The Express & Star Business Awards ceremony at The Halls Wolverhampton on Thursday, June 5.
Established in 2003, Star Scaffolding provides scaffolding services across the UK. The company has bases in West Bromwich and Ashby-de-la-Zouch and currently employs more than 100 staff.
