Care UK’s Whitebourne, on Burleigh Road, was recognised at the Stars of Social Care Awards 2025 in the ‘Care Home Nutrition Award’ category.
The awards shine a light on brilliance in social care, paying tribute to the workforce who go above and beyond to support those who are most vulnerable. The ‘Care Home Nutrition Award’ recognises chefs who showcase enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring good nutrition and hydration through the provision of well balanced and tasty meals.
Meals at Whitebourne are planned using daily menus, which include a range of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Chefs arrive at the home every morning at 6am to prepare show plates, which can really help residents living with dementia. These are sample plates of the day’s meal options, allowing residents to see and smell what’s on offer to help them choose what to eat. If residents don’t want anything from the show plates, the chefs will offer to cook them something different on request.
Whitebourne was the first care home in the county to get involved in the 2023 Surrey Dietician Community Project. The home team worked alongside a professional dietician for 12 weeks to learn how to further improve nutrition and hydration for residents. After the project was complete, all team members felt more knowledgeable, and many residents had gained healthy weight.
The team is dedicated to making every day memorable, often celebrating cultural and fun events to bring joy to residents. On National Cheese Day, residents got to enjoy a variety of cheeses throughout the day alongside their favourite wines. National Biscuit Day was also a huge hit at Whitebourne, with residents getting involved by decorating their own biscuits. The team bake a homemade, personalised cake for every resident on their birthday, and prepare a special meal for them to share with their loved ones for their celebration.
Colette Kelleher, Home Manager at Whitebourne, said: “Here at Whitebourne, we’re incredibley proud of our talented culinary team and are delighted to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award – it is so well deserved and a testament to the team’s dedication.
“A lot of thought and attention has gone into making Whitebourne a brilliant place to call home, particularly when it comes to our food offering, and we pride ourselves on being able to offer a balanced, nutritious and delicious diet for residents. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a win at the awards ceremony!”
The winners of the Stars of Social Care Awards will be announced on Saturday 21st June at a ceremony held at the Marriott Regents Park in London.
