The annual event is open to schools across the UK and gives children from Reception age upwards the opportunity to race along the famous London Marathon course. Pupils, staff and families had a wonderful day out cheering on the runners.

The Mini London Marathon was first held in 1985. Sir Mo Farah, Eilish McColgan, David Weir and Keely Hodgkinson are among the star names to have taken part in the past. The organisers also make a donation to participating schools of £10 for every child who finishes.

Caroline Farrelly, Deputy Head of Schools, said: “The atmosphere at the marathon was like nothing I have experienced, it was a day that the children are going to remember forever! A wonderful event- we were so proud of our children”.

Craig Miller, Teacher & Upper Phase Leader, said: “Seeing the children represent Warren Mead Schools at the London Mini Marathon was one of my proudest days as a teacher. It was amazing seeing them running, supporting their peers and being cheered on by the thousands that were watching. It was an honour to run alongside them and encourage them as they took on and completed this big challenge.”

Lottie, Year 4, said: “Running the marathon was really fun and people cheering me really helped me to finish. I am really proud of myself for finishing it!”
