Gareth told carers at Arbrook House about his son’s forthcoming wedding, and they planned a special blessing ceremony so Gareth could be a part of their big day. Gareth’s son, Matthew Jones, will marry Grace McGeehan on 13th June, and it was important for the couple to have Matthew’s father celebrate with them.
Andrew Rowe-Holliday activities coordinator at Arbrook House, organised the event and decorated the home to look like a wedding venue. He chose pink wisteria, white hydrangea garlands and pink rose petals arranged in the shape of a heart.
Andrew commented: “It was a wonderful and heartwarming day. The sun was shining, and everyone was excited to see a beautiful blessing ceremony here in our home and show our support for Gareth and his family. We wish the happy couple all the very best!”
Several special guests were in attendance: Curate, Sarah Atkins from The Holy Trinity Church in Claygate attended to officiate the ceremony. Harpist, Heather Wrighton provided music for the guests, playing ‘Amazing Grace’ as Matthew and Grace entered while family, friends and fellow residents were all present.
Gareth’s wife, Joanna commented: “Thank you, wonderful Arbrook! It was a truly beautiful blessing for Matt and his fiancé Grace. We had such a joyful day, where many happy memories were made. I am so grateful Gareth could see Matt and Grace dressed in their wedding finery and had the chance to wish them both well.”
Gareth, 75, has lived at Arbrook for three months. He and Joanna have twin sons, Matthew and Edward, 32.
