Peter Knight’s Gigspanner to perform in Farnham arts charity concert

Peter Knight, the acclaimed ex-Steeleye Span fiddle player once described by the late Sir Terry Pratchett as having the ability “to spin the world on his bow”, is set to perform with his band, Gigispanner, at a concert dedicated to Farnham-based arts charity Creative Response on March 8.

The Gigspanner Trio (left to right: Sacha Trochet, Peter Knight, Roger Flack) is headlining a concert for Farnham arts charity Creative Response at The Spire Church on 8th March.

The concert is scheduled to take place in The Spire Church, Farnham, on 8th March at 7 pm. Amy Hollinrake, a talented singer-songwriter based in London, will be opening the concert. Tickets available from www.folkinspiration.org

Kathryn McManus, chief executive of Creative Response said: “This concert is a lovely opportunity to celebrate our community, which is continuing to grow all the time. In the last few months, we've started new Creative Response arts sessions in Aldershot and Farnborough, as well as for over 60s at our main studios in Farnham. Alongside this, we continue to support vulnerable people in Surrey, including our Ukraine group.

“I hope lots of people in and around Farnham, where our small charity is based, will come along to help raise funds for the vital work Creative Response does in our community. A big thank you to Jo at Folk Inspiration for all her brilliant support. It is sure to be a spectacular evening of music!”

“The difference the Creative Response staff, artworkers and volunteers make to people’s lives is absolutely astonishing. Their work is what I wanted to spotlight,” explained concert organiser Jo Hughes at Folk Inspiration. “By having a musician as brilliantly iconic as Peter Knight perform at our concert for Creative Response, I hope more people will become aware of and give their support to this wonderful independent charity.”

After his departure from Steeleye Span, Peter Knight turned his full attention to Gigspanner, with guitarist Roger Flack and drummer Sacha Trochet. The trio established their reputation as one of the most genuinely ground-breaking forces on the British folk scene.

Taking self-penned material along with music rooted in the British Isles and beyond, Gigspanner produces richly atmospheric arrangements “with notes seemingly plucked from the stars and rhythms from the equator” (quote from Spiral Earth).

Amy Hollinrake is a rising artist emerging from the South-East London folk scene. Her songs re-imagine the stories in folklore and mythology through a modern feminist lens, soundtracked by her hauntingly beautiful and earthy brand of contemporary alt-folk.

Proceeds from the concert will be donated to Creative Response.
