The Outreach Award recognises initiatives that extend beyond a care setting—supporting those affected by dementia through meaningful, inclusive community engagement. It celebrates innovation that involves individuals living with dementia and makes a real-world difference to their lives.
The Burlington’s finalist status reflects the success of its Dementia Friendly Cinema Club, a monthly outreach programme offering connection, comfort, and joy to people living with dementia and their carers. Created in response to a lack of dementia-inclusive activities locally, the Cinema Club has become a valued fixture in the community—welcoming around 100 visitors in the past year
Held in a warm, familiar environment with softened sound and gentle lighting, screenings feature nostalgic films selected based on feedback from residents and guests. Importantly, attendees help shape the programme by suggesting future films and sharing reflections—fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging.
“The Cinema Club has become a real highlight for our community,” says Kirsty Ford, Admissions Manager at The Burlington and the driving force behind the project. “It’s a place where people feel safe, understood, and genuinely at home—where the joy of a shared story sparks memories, smiles, and meaningful connection.”
The initiative exemplifies The Burlington’s Life Enrichment Programme, particularly the principles of Connect, Contribute, Feel, and Reflect. It also strengthens local ties and opens pathways for further involvement in community events hosted at the home.
Reflecting on the nomination, Ameet Kotecha, Founder and Managing Director of Boutique Care Homes, said: “I’m incredibly proud of what the team at The Burlington has achieved. This nomination is a powerful reflection of their passion, creativity, and commitment to reaching beyond our walls to support those living with dementia in the wider community. It’s a shining example of care so good, it’s unexpected.”
By opening its doors to the wider community, The Burlington continues to live out the Boutique Care Homes ethos of a warm and loving family where everyone feels at home—ensuring no one affected by dementia feels left behind.
