Gallery North would like to invite entries from artists working in any medium for this forthcoming exhibition which is a thematic exhibition inspired by the beauty of the animal kingdom and our natural world. Artists are invited to submit up to three works for consideration that respond to this theme (three works maximum). For details and enquiries please email Emma at:  artgallerynorth@gmail.com. The current exhibition, New Beginnings, a joyful exhibition that celebrates the spring season and explores the meaning of a ‘new beginning’ is from both resident and guest artists who are a multi-disciplinary range of artists at various stages in their careers and are based across Sussex and London. The two featured artists, Corinne Corbett-Thompson and Lynda Minter will be taking over two of the downstairs rooms to showcase their vibrant work as part of this eclectic show.

HAILSHAM ROTARY CLUB MEMBERS recently visited the "Pass it on" larder in Hailsham. Each evening the larder collects food that would have been binned by supermarkets. Then between 10am and 12 noon each day the larder gives away collections to around 100 visitors. Each visitor is allowed a maximum collection of one bag.

HAILSHAM FARMERS MARKET is next on Saturday 12 April and on the second Saturday of every month. The Market will run from 9am to 12.30pm at the Cattle Market Site. This market will run, whatever the weather, so please support your local farmers, producers and craftspeople at Hailsham Farmers’ Market. As always, there is plenty of free parking on site; pick your goods and pack your shopping straight into your car, at Market Street, Hailsham BN27 2AG. Next week there will be a list of all the producers and crafters you can expect to see there.

HAILSHAM PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY held the final round 4 of the Society's Print Competition last week, which attracted a large number of entries with 17 in the Development Class and 41 in the Advanced Class. Judge Alan Lomakin CPAGB BPE4* AFIAP, certainly had his work cut out in looking to select just 3 from the development section and 7 from the advanced class. He nonetheless approached his task with enthusiasm, affording ample time to each image, pointing out where and how images had successfully provided him with particular points of interest, impact and emotion. Alan was equally candid in pointing out those little things within other images which had detracted from its overall impact and would thus not be going forward. Holding back a number for further deliberation prior to making his final selection of those prints going forward into the Print Finals later in the year Alan's final choices were as follows. Development Class (17 entries): Bird on Feeder by Brian Gell, Pond in the woods by Ben Cottingham, Spitfire over Beachy Head by Nicola Stone. Advances Class (41 entries): Reaching for life by Cherry Larcombe, Whitby East lighthouse by Dave Brooker, House of cards by Denise Hart, Kori Bustard displaying by Marston Hart, Orchid by Dave Brooker, Elephants at waterhole by Paul Shilliam, White City wanderers by Chris Underhill. Congratulations to all of the above successful photographers. All selected prints are available to view on the Society's website at  www.hailshamphotographicsociety.co.uk

NEW TOWN CRIER Bruce Pont has been selected following a rigorous interview and audition process. Bruce, a sound engineer, audio consultant and voice-over artist by trade, was selected by a recruitment panel made up of town councillors and staff, who assessed each of the five candidates’ suitability for the prestigious role. As part of the comprehensive interview process, candidates were tasked with delivering their own traditional ‘cry’ outside the James West Community Centre in Brunel Drive. The recruitment panel also agreed to appoint radio presenter and travel agent Chris Giles as Deputy Town Crier, who will work alongside Bruce and provide cover when necessary.
