Sharon Wheeler, Chestnut Tree House: Half term memory making

The school holidays are always a flurry of activity and excitement, and this May half term is no exception.

Head of Clinical Services at Chestnut Tree House

My colleagues do not do anything by halves, and we are kicking off the activities with a Magic Kingdom takeover, where the house will be brimming with some of the wildest, wackiest, and most beloved characters from the everyone’s favourite franchise! We also have a Charlie & The Chocolate Factory-themed day, outings, and even alpaca cuddling!

These activities are so precious because it’s challenging to find locations that can support the needs of those in our care. Many of our children are in mobility chairs, are at risk of having seizures, need tube feeding, medication and close monitoring.

Our Chestnut families can attend our themed days safe in the knowledge that we have the facilities and expertise available should anything occur. It allows them to relax and live in the moment.

We have also arranged a brunch date for parents because it’s important they take time out for themselves, too. Whilst we care for their child they can relax and recharge, ready to be the superhero parents they need to be.

As a charity we must fund these days and it’s thanks to you, our supporters, that we can arrange things like this. Thank you so much for your continued support and donations. We couldn’t do it without you!
