As part of our commitment to mobility scooter safety, our experienced and trained advisors are ready to assist users in recognising and safely addressing the hazards they may encounter while navigating local pavements.
With the new season underway, Mobility Scooter Safety continues to offer FREE personalized, one-on-one sessions that typically take place in the area close to the user’s home. We operate over a large area covering Henfield, Steyning, Storrington, Pulborough, Billingshurst, Southwater and Horsham.
Our hands-on approach allows drivers to practice their skills in their own locality, ensuring they fully understand the functionality and limitations of their scooters or powered wheelchairs.
During these sessions, our friendly 'Scooter Tutors' engage users in discussions about their scooters, explaining the full use of the controls and helping them improve their driving and manoeuvring skills.
Participants will have the opportunity to safely cross roads, navigate pavements, and, when possible, explore shops — all while identifying potential hazards and learning effective strategies for safety.
The goal of our program is to empower mobility scooter powered chair users through education and practical experience. They can attend more than once if they wish.
A follow-up discussion concludes each session, allowing drivers to share what they have learned during the 90-minute session and reinforce their newfound knowledge.
Community
Mobility Scooter Safety invites every scooter or powered chair user in the community to take advantage of this invaluable program which is offered free of charge.
Whether you are a new mobility scooter user or have been driving for years, our sessions are designed to enhance your safety and confidence.
We can help, even if you are only thinking of getting a scooter. You can ride one of ours and we can advise on which size and type would suit you. Relatives also may be understandably concerned about this aspect and we encourage them to join in.
We do not sell scooters nor do we receive any kind of payment from scooter suppliers.
Our main, and repeated, message to all participants is: -
- IN PEDESTRIAN AREAS,THE LEGAL LIMIT IS 4 mph
- ALWAYS GIVE WAY TO PEDESTRIANS and BE COURTEOUS
- THE MOST DANGEROUS ACTION WHEN USING A MOBILITY SCOOTER IS DRIVING ON, or CROSSING, A ROAD!
“We always have positive comments after our sessions,” says group chairman, David Searle, “and strongly recommend new and more experienced scooter drivers to contact us to ask about a free Safety Session.”
