The service featured meaningful readings, including Corinthians 12:12-20, 26-27 by MP Alison Bennett, and Luke 2:22-40 by Lindy Stanton from the Alzheimer's Society. The congregation joined in singing hymns such as "Lord of All Hopefulness," "Tell Out My Soul," "Here I Am, Lord," "Brother, Sister, Let Me Serve You," and the National Anthem, creating a spirit of unity and reflection.
Distinguished guests in attendance included MP Alison Bennett, Mid Sussex District Council Chairman Rodney Jackson, Lindfield Parish Council Chairman Will Blunden, Vice Chairman Valerie Upton, Deputy Mayor Cllr Duncan Pascoe, Town Councillors, local funeral directors, representatives from the Alzheimer's Society, local charity representatives, previous mayors, and residents.
The Mayor's Civic Service was a testament to the strong community spirit in Haywards Heath. Local organizations and volunteers played a crucial role in making the event a success. Time 4 Children and the Alzheimer's Society, the Mayor's chosen charities, have been instrumental in providing support and services to those in need. Their efforts were recognized and celebrated during the service.
The involvement of various community members, including local funeral directors, charity representatives, and previous mayors, showcased the collaborative efforts that make Haywards Heath a vibrant and caring community. The service highlighted the importance of volunteerism and community engagement in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
In her speech, Cllr Inglesfield expressed her gratitude, saying:
"I cannot say thank you enough to Father Edward and St Wilfrid’s Church for all they have been doing for our community for ever. I also want to thank the organist, MP Alison Bennett, Cllr Rodney Jackson, Chair of the District Council, and the three former Mayors in attendance, Irene Balls, John Sabin, and Richard Goddard. I want to thank all the Town Councillors, Will Blunden, Chair of Lindfield Parish Council, and Val Upton, Vice Chair of Lindfield Parish Council. I extend my thanks to the members of the Alzheimer's Society, representatives of local charities and businesses, and all the charity volunteers, the unsung heroes of our community. You work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, and you make the world go around. The annual Haywards Heath Community Awards is a wonderful platform to celebrate these beautiful people, Roy Randall who was the recipient of the Mayors award last year, and Chris and Pat Croft, this year’s Mayor’s Award recipients. During my speech, I would also like to give my thanks to Steve Trice, Helen Hewett and Imogen Wilson, for their ongoing incredible support."
Cllr Inglesfield concluded the service by once again thanking the Haywards Heath community for their continuous support and dedication, emphasizing the importance of coming together to celebrate and strengthen community bonds.
After the service, attendees were served refreshments in the Centenary Hall, providing an opportunity for everyone to mingle and reflect on the day's events. The refreshments further fostered a sense of community and camaraderie among those present.
