On Saturday, February 15, from 9am to 5pm, the public are invited to visit the Community Quarter to learn about exciting volunteer opportunities, meet staff and volunteers, and get the unique chance to spend time with some adorable guide dog puppies.
The event is part of a nationwide initiative designed to highlight the incredible impact volunteers have on the lives of those with sight loss, and to invite people to find out more about volunteering for the sight loss charity.
Whether it’s puppy raising, fostering, fundraising, or offering a helping hand in the community, there are countless ways to get involved and make a difference.
Shannon Butler, Local Volunteer Attraction Coordinator for Guide Dogs in Newcastle said: “Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and their dedication helps to change lives.
“Through our ‘Share the Love’ event, we hope to inspire more people to join our Guide Dogs family and help us create a world where people with sight loss can live the life they choose.”
Visitors to the event can:
• Discover volunteering opportunities and speak with current volunteers about their experiences.
• Meet and fall in love with some adorable guide dog puppies (subject to availability).
• Snap a photo at the Guide Dogs stand and share their support on social media using the hashtags #ShareTheLove, #GuideDogsLove and #Volunteer
Guide Dogs is need of more Puppy Raiser and Fosterer volunteers in Newcastle and the surrounding area.
Volunteer Puppy Raisers provide a loving home, helping a young guide dog puppy develop confidence, obedience, and experience in various environments. Volunteer Fosterers look after dogs for a few months while they go through their advanced guide dog training at a local centre. Both roles are crucial in shaping well-adjusted guide dogs who can provide life-changing support to individuals with a vision impairment.
No prior experience is necessary for volunteering with Guide Dogs - just a passion for making a difference. Whether you have a few hours to spare or are looking for a more involved role, there’s something for everyone.
