A pint-sized fairytale heroine is on the loose in Darlington Hippodrome - and she wants you to play hide and seek with her!
The handknitted Snow White doll is running amok in the run up to a dance theatre production of the classic story coming to the venue later this month.
The lucky finder will not only get to keep the one of a kind soft toy, but will also receive two tickets for balletLORENT's Snow White or Snow White: The Sacrifice, for ages 16+, on either Friday 16 and Saturday 17 May 2025. Terms and conditions apply.
Wearing a distinctive dress with a yellow skirt, blue top and white collars, the doll was handmade by one of the dedicated members of an over-55s knitting and movement group. Based in Newcastle's West End, and run by balletLORENT for local people, it is called Knitters, Movers & Shakers. The Snow White doll is 15cm tall, and in keeping with the original 1937 Disney interpretation of the character, sports dark hair tied with a red ribbon.
James MacGillivray, education and projects manager, balletLORENT said: "Our tiny knitted Snow White dancer is running amok in the Hippodrome!
"Find her, and she's yours to keep, as are two tickets to our dance theatre version of Snow White, which is suitable for everyone aged 5+ or for the darker Snow White: The Sacrifice, which has been created with an adult audience in mind.
"If you find the doll, show her at the box office to claim your tickets."
balletLORENT is bringing not one, but two enchanting dance theatre versions of Snow White to the Hippodrome.
The first retains all the well-loved elements of the original centuries old Brothers Grimm tale and is suitable for ages 5+. A jealous mother, a beautiful daughter, a magic mirror, and a poison apple are amongst the infamous motifs of this classic story of youth and ageing, betrayal, jealousy and friendship.
One of balletLORENT's trademarks is the clever use of narration to help audiences of all ages to engage with the power of dance. Retold for modern audiences in the distinctive voice of former poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, families can enjoy this highly accessible dance theatre performance, which is narrated throughout by actor Lindsay Duncan.
The show is a significant reworking of balletLORENT's 2015/16 Snow White, which delighted audiences around the country and received glowing reviews.
A second version, called Snow White: The Sacrifice, was specially created for audiences aged 16+. With a darker heart, it turns the fairy tale on its head, exploring the tortured inner world of Snow White's mother, the Wicked Queen.
The story of a tortured woman’s dread of aging and her battle against obscurity, it is narrated by Sarah Parish, known for her appearances in shows including Mistresses, Cutting it and satirical BBC mockumentary W1A. Snow White: The Sacrifice premiered in balletLORENT's Newcastle home in 2024.
Directed by artistic director Liv Lorent, Snow White and Snow White: The Sacrifice feature twelve extraordinary performers of all ages. Sixty-one year old balletLORENT regular Caroline Reece plays the Queen whilst her King, Geoff Hopson, 53, from Stockton-on-Tees, came out of dance retirement to join the cast.
