Tyneside trainees on the right track

Bricklaying apprentices are working on an exciting train-themed project at New Tyne West Development Company’s (NTWDC) The Rise, in Scotswood, which has links to the past.

Geoff Scott, Social Value Manager at Keepmoat and James Dolan from NHBC, joined the apprentices as work began on a brick train - to be located on Hadrian’s Way.

When complete, the train will overlook where the old rail line and stations on Hadrian's Way used to be, creating a link between the history of the location and The Rise.

The project will also help the apprentices develop skills whilst creating something for the community to enjoy. The brick train will include a seating area where people can relax and take in the views over the Tyne.

The idea for the project came from NTWDC Director, Lee McGray and is being delivered in partnership with the NHBC training hub and Keepmoat.
