Yorkshire Decorators Centre set to launch new Darnall showroom

Sheffield business Yorkshire Decorators Centre will launch its new premises in Darnall on April 29.

Lauren Whiting and Tony Gallagher of Yorkshire Decorators Centre.

The family-owned business has been based at Gibraltar Street in Sheffield city centre for 22 years but says Sheffield Council’s controversial clean air zone policy has lost them customers and seen a £50,000 fall in turnover.

The move to Greenland Road in the heart of Darnall’s busy shopping centre will take the business well outside of the clean air zone.

The clean air zone, which covers most of Sheffield city centre, sees van drivers charged £10 per day to enter, while bigger vehicles can pay up to £50 per day.

YDC directors Tony Gallagher and Lauren Whiting are hoping that the move will bring back customers who were deterred by the the clean air zone charge - and generate new business too.

“We are very excited about our April 29 launch date and feel sure that the move will help re-establish our lost trade and provide us with a strong foundation for the future,” said Tony.

“Making the move was not an easy decision to make after 22 years in the same location but staying put was simply never an option.

“The new shop has its own customer car park and is beside a busy main road, with plenty of footfall in the heart of a bustling and lively community.

“We have been overwhelmed by the public’s response and the way so many people have expressed their support for us through this very difficult time for our business.

“With so much goodwill behind us, we are certain we can weather the storm and look forward to a much brighter future.

“We will be opening at 9am on April 29 but after that we will be going back to our usual 7am start, which has always been popular with our regular customers.

“And on opening day only we will also have a 10 per cent cash discount for all customers to help celebrate the move.”
